Man dies from injuries after fire in Pottstown

POTTSTOWN, PA – One of the people injured in the fire that severely damaged a Pottstown high-rise last week has died, officials confirmed.

Bradley Ludwig, 53, died of burns and smoke inhalation, according to Pottstown officials and the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office.

Ludwig was one of five people hospitalized after the tragedy, which occurred around 6:05 a.m. last Thursday at the Robert P. Smith Towers apartment complex at 501 E. High Street.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and remains under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police.

Pottstown Mayor Stephanie Henrick said the fire underscored the need for more affordable housing and community resources for those affected by similar emergencies.

“Maybe you’re lucky and have family to take you in… maybe you’re the only member of your family and all your support/friends/neighbors have lost everything too,” she said. “What other choice do we have but to rely on the support of our community?”
