James Wiley “Bip” Farrow, a man of unwavering strength and heartwarming generosity, passed away on May 31, 2024 at the age of 82. Born on May 18, 1942 in Albany, Georgia, he lived a life marked by devotion to his family, service to his country and commitment to his community. Bip left this world in Columbus, Georgia, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease, surrounded by the love of his family.

After graduating from Albany High School, Bip continued his education at Southern Tech in Atlanta, GA, where he honed skills that would serve him throughout his career. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and National Guard for ten years, a testament to his dedication and patriotism. Bip’s professional life was highlighted by 35 years at Georgia Power Company and Southern Company, where he excelled as a mechanic, garage superintendent and ultimately fleet manager before retiring.

Bip was a devoted husband to Carol Farrow, his beloved wife of forty years, who stood by him in every chapter of his life. Together they created a loving family that includes their children Kym Farrow, Susan Babb (Mickey), James “Bo” Farrow, Jr (Tina), Angie Miller (Kevin), Becky Steed (Johnathan), Rob Morgan (Kristy) and Jessica . Smart (David). The joy of his life was being a guiding light and mentor to his children and a loving grandfather to his 22 beloved grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A man of many passions, Bip enjoyed playing golf, enjoyed the simple pleasure of cooking for friends and family, and was a regular helper with his children’s homework. He enjoyed traveling with them to various sporting events, whether it was baseball, wrestling, gymnastics, cheerleading or football games, and later relived those precious moments with his grandchildren. Bip’s involvement in the Hilton Terrace community brought him much happiness, and he served with honor as a deacon.

Those who knew Bip will remember him as a generous, selfless and loving soul. His infectious laugh, warm embrace and unwavering support were the pillars on which many leaned. Bip’s legacy lies not only in the lives he so positively impacted, but also in the standards he set for kindness and compassion.
