Detroit City FC eliminates Rhode Island to return to winning ways


Detroit City FC ended the swing on a good note.

Le Rouge snapped a two-match skid and five-match winless streak with a 2-0 victory over USL Championship newcomer Rhode Island FC at Beirne Stadium on Saturday.

DCFC got on the board in the 36th minute when Maxi Rodriguez was in the right place at the right time. After a sharp pass led to a shot into the penalty area by Victor Bezerra that was blocked by the keeper, the ball found Rodriguez in front of the open net.

Le Rouge doubled its lead in the second half when Bezerra had another scoring opportunity in the penalty area. This time Bezerra finished it off, beating the keeper with a shot into the bottom right corner, making it 2–0 in the 64th game.e minute.

Carlos Saldaña scored the clean sheet in goal to help Detroit City (6-3-2) return to its winning ways and record its first USL Championship win since April 20.

DCFC returns to action on Saturday, June 15, when it hosts Charleston Battery in its first home game in more than a month. The kick-off is at 4:00 PM
