JESSE JAMES LACEY, JR., 84, of Little Rock, Ark., passed into eternity on May 31, 2024. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dr. Marian G. Lacey; parents, Jesse Lacey and Carrie Lacey; and sister, Leoda Sims. Jesse was born in Vicksburg, Miss., where he attended public schools and graduated from Bowman High School in 1957. His education continued at Arkansas AM&N College, now UAPB in Pine Bluff, Ark., where he majored in chemistry and minored in mathematics. and education. Jesse went on to earn a Master of Education from Indiana University (1967), followed by a Doctor of Education from Indiana University (1973), cum laude. For the first ten years of his career, Jesse was a math teacher and supervisor in the Arkansas Delta towns of Helena, Eudora and Clarendon. He then served as an assistant at Indiana University. From 1973-1974 he was an assistant professor of education at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He then served as director of federal programs for the Little Rock School District, served on the Arkansas Parole Board and returned to his role as assistant principal at Booker Arts Magnet and Parkview Arts and Science Magnet High school. He retired in 2002. He was a member of several professional groups, including the American Association of School Administrators, the National Association of Secondary School Principals and the Association of Teacher Educators. He was also a member of the Phi Delta Kappa Teachers’ Honorary Society. Jesse was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, Pi Lambda Chapter. Jesse was passionate about sports, family, travel and politics throughout his life. He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia D. Lacey, Little Rock, Ark.; sons, Jeffrey J. Lacey, Little Rock, Ark.; Dr. Julian Lacey (Camille), Weston, FL; two loving grandchildren: Caden and Jillian Lacey, Weston, Florida; brother, Levi Lacey, Detroit, Mich.; brother-in-law, Judge Don Glover; sisters-in-law, Virginia Halliday (Doc), Kailua-Kona, Hawaii; Barbara Littlejohn (Michael), Lansing, MI; Dr. Esther Fahm (Tunde), Menomonie, Wis.; Carlotta Hallamon (Terrence), West Bloomfield, Michigan; Doris Glover, McGee, Ark.; special daughters, Kim Lang (Pine Bluff, Ark.), Robbin Bailey (Plano, Texas), Andrea Hogan Lewis (Little Rock, Ark.); goddaughter; Marian Bailey (Robert); special friend, Carla Boles; as well as cousins, fraternity brothers and many friends.
