Edwin McKinnon Thompson, known as “Tom the Barber,” 80, left his home in Springfield, Massachusetts, on Wednesday (June 19, 2002). Born July 13, 1922 in Hartford, son of the late Doward and Verda Thompson of Hartford. Mr. Thompson was a self-employed barber in the Springfield, MA area for over 57 years and was also employed by the Springfield Police Department. A faithful member of Little Rock Chapel of United Holiness Church. A veteran of World War II, serving in the military. A charter member of the Elks, “The Forget Me Not” Lodge. He is survived by two sons, MacKinnon Thompson and wife, Laurien of East Hartford, Keith S. Thompson and wife, Karol of Middletown; three daughters, Edwina Wells of Springfield, MA, Elanda and Romona Thompson of Springfield, MA, with eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Doward and Albert Thompson of Hartford; and two sisters, Verda Tisdale of Hartford, and MaryAnn Griffin of Columbus, GA. Dad, keep the lights on in God’s kingdom, we love you! Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 24, 2002 at Henderson’s Funeral Home, 52 Hancock Street, Springfield, MA.
